Survivors 2020: Battling through fall semester

Survivors+2020%3A+Battling+through+fall+semester

The infamous year of 2020 was a shell shock to the entire world and consequently to the ecosystem of PRHS. The venture of distance learning has been one that some thrive in but all must find a way to survive in.

Bearcats have found ways to capitalize on quarantine through working, pursuing athletic passions as well as exploring their creative side. But there are two sides to every coin. While some students have flourished, others have experienced loss, deterioration in mental health as well as grades, and the hardship of deciding their futures after high school.

The entire world may be experiencing the same pandemic, but it is not being experienced in the same way. The highs and lows of adolescence have been suddenly confined to student’s respective bedrooms.

Bearcats must now outlast, outplay, and outwit the current, truly unprecedented circumstances.

In “Survivors 2020,” the staff of Crimson Newsmagazine strove to show all the varying sides of how PRHS’ current student body is handling life and high school through COVID-19 and distance learning. It has already been shown that grades and mental health have declined — but why? Through this project, the staff hopes to answer that question and many more by delving into the lives of students of different economic class, grade, race, gender, and more.

While connected by the historical times, society has never felt more disconnected. Life in a pandemic has shown to be one of overcoming obstacles, self-exploration, and turbulence — but through it all, Bearcats find a way to persevere.
