Aiden Farrell and Michael Horne visit PRHS to talk to students interested in joining the Navy and Airforce

Former bearcats Aiden Farrell and Michael Horne visited PRHS on Friday, June 2 at lunch to talk to students interested in joining the Navy and Army.  Farrell attended four years at the naval academy West point is now an O-1 and ensign.

“The naval academy appealed to me it included several aspects that were important to me;  leadership, athleticism, and academics …they were challenging years, but they were the best years of my life.” Farrell said.

When Farrell graduated from PRHS, he quickly joined the Navy.

“I didn’t want to go to a normal college…I’m happy I went to the one I did.” said Farrell.

Senior Matt Olsen is joining the Air force, in hopes of being a pilot and engineer one day. Olsen will head off to the Air Force Academy on June 29 for six weeks of basic training.
Olsen plan is to receive his degree in Astronautical Engineering and attend Pilot School afterwards. Pilot training is three rigorous years long; Olsen hopes to continue on and commit to seven years or service in the Air Force. Olsen’s plans to retire after 20 years of service and become an engineer or astronaut at NASA.

“All the benefits of it {the Air Force} helped me decide on joining.” Horne said.

Senior Matt Horne is attending West Point after high school.  Horne leaves for the East Coast on July 2, where he will major in economics to follow his dreams.

“I wanted the chance to serve my country, and earn an outstanding education, and I saw West Point as the best place to accomplish that goal.” said Horne

Farrell and Horne conversed with multiple PRHS students about their experiences at West Point and other fields.  Many students asked questions about their experiences, and recommendations on schools to attend.  Both Farrell and Horne stayed and chatted with teachers and siblings Graham Farrell and Matt Horne in the Quad, sharing memories.
