Bearcat track athletes advance to finals

Prelims

The Bearcats traveled to Atascadero High School on Friday, April 28 to race against seven other schools in the PAC 8 League Prelims. The top 12 runners in the 1600m, top nine in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m, and top eight in the 100m, 110m, and 300m hurdles qualified for League Finals.

Twenty-one athletes qualified in the events run, with outstanding performances such as Madison Mitchell’s 15.41a 100H, Kiara Mabien’s 1:00.02a 400m and 26.66a 200m, Madison Wineman’s 2:24.74a 800m, Javier Solis’ 52.16a 400m, and Trad Berti’s 1:56a 800m.

All Varsity field events were automatically qualified for Finals, and these athletes will compete on May 4.

Finals

Fourteen Bearcats qualified at for CIF following individual victories at League Finals: Seniors Kiara Mabien, Codie Wilshusen, Madison Mitchell, Annie Meeder, Trad Berti, Jacob Frankin, Juniors Cade England, Javier Solis, Dante Coletta, Sophomores Kaden Gallant, Jordan Summers, Madison Wineman, Kayla McDonald, and Freshman Clay Wishusen.

The highlight of the meet was Codie Wilshusen’s record breaking pole vault at a height of 12’4″, which soared above her previous PR and school record of 12’0″. She is now ranked 10th in the state, and will be competing again at CIF Prelims on May 13.

PAC 8 Finals was the last meet for all Freshmen and Sophomore athletes, and both the boys and girls finished strong, with Frosh/Soph Girls placing fifth overall and Frosh/Soph Boys securing their spot as PAC 8 Campions. Many Bearcats excelled individually as well, as Pablo Cortes won the F/S Boys 800m, 1600m, and 3200m, Steven Scruggs finished second in the same events, and Corban Payne and Andrew Jenks won first in Discus and second in Shot Put, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Sarah Jagger placed first in the F/S 1600m and second in the 800m, Jill Schlickeiser finished third in the 1600m, and Kristen Abron took first in Discus.
